Hi Folks,
Life is beginning to pleasantly slow down on Fields Farm. Jim and Brian worked to get the last of the potatoes out of the ground this week. This morning the sales shed is packed with plenty of garlic, onions, 4 kinds of potatoes, 3 kinds of beets, carrots, cabbage and wild rice. Stop by anytime and help yourself.

We’re open
post by: Debbie Fields October 15, 2013
Hi Folks, Farmer’s markets have ended but we still have plenty of beets(3 varieties), carrots, cabbage, collards, garlic, kale, leeks, onion, peppers, potatoes(4 varieties) sauerkraut, tomatoes, wild rice and garlic herb powders.
The stand is self service, open during daylight hours. Check the white board for prices, record your purchases in the small spiral note book in the green box and leave payment, cash or checks are fine. However if it’s your first time out and you would like help, it is not impolite to honk and we’ll come help you. We are also accepting senior and WIC Farmer market vouchers through the end of October.

This is the time of year of abundance! The stand has 3 kinds of potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, beets, kale, chard, tomatoes, cucumbers, walnuts in the shell, summer squash, cabbage, broccoli and probably a few things I’ve forgotten to mention. If you want larger amounts of cabbage or beets for canning or pickling let us know.
For those of you who frequent the Downtown Farmer’s Market you may have noticed the new sauerkraut. This is a pastuerized and canned product. If you are interested in fresh sauerkraut let us know and we will arrange for on farm pick up.
Enjoy the fall abundance and think about stocking up for winter.

Farm News

Life never stays the same does it? As many of you know we have been selling eggs with our friend Elena. She has been accepted into nursing school(no small feat) and is decreasing her flock size, so we will only have our eggs to sell. As we only have about 6 to 8 dozen eggs to sell a week, we would like to refer our eggs buyers to the Locavor Store on NE 1st street behind Miller Lumber. They are open Monday through Friday from noon to 6 pm. They have a regular supply of local farm raised eggs.
At the farmstand we have 3 varieties of potatoes, onions, those big heads of garlic, carrots, beets, cabbage, brocolli, basil, cucumbers, 4 kinds of kale, swiss chard, green beans and walnuts. We’re a bit shy of lettuce mix but more plantings are coming on next week. Tomatoes and peppers will be on in September. If you want Wild Rice, please ask for it. We have trouble with mice if we leave it in the sales shed. We are currently harvesting Monday through Thursday. The stand is open 7 days a week daylight hours. Come on by.

Pics of Jim Leading the Charge at March Against Monsanto
post by: Debbie Fields May 26, 2013
In the biggest protest Bend has seen since the days of Occupy, Jim kicked off the March Against Monsanto Rally speaking to the 300+ people crowd about the history of the Monsanto Corporation and the insidious chemicals they have developed, starting with saccharine. He then spoke about how about how to get involved in the antidote to Monsanto’s disease, the local food movement. After a talk by local dairy farmer, Billie Johnson, the crowd marched through and around downtown. There were colorful signs and costumes. Millions of people participated in Cites across the world, including a reported 6000 in Portland. More info on the local event here and here is a youtube video.

CSA shares
post by: Debbie Fields May 11, 2013
We’ve recently found out we’ve lost one of our FarmtoWork drop sites so there are 5 more CSA shares available! If you’ve thought about trying out the CSA model of buying your season’s worth of produce in the spring with a bag full of produce weekly, now’s the time. Both large and small shares are available to fit your needs. Please see our website www.fieldsfarm.org for more specific info on CSA shares. The farmstand is open daily with eggs and a variety of greens in the frig. With this warm weather the crops are happy and growing rapidly.
